Life Changer: Do The Work You Can’t Not Do

When we are searching for purpose in any major decision, whether that be a job change, relocation, or finding our calling in life, one major question always emerges: “How do I know what I’m supposed to do?” The answer to that question is unbelievably powerful. We should do the work we can’t not do, and discovering and knowing what we’re supposed to do with our work, our lives, and the time we’re given, is absolutely essential. Without it, we float around each day, curious at how we could have spent that time differently.

I recently stumbled upon an outstanding TEDx talk, given by Scott Dinsmore, that discusses this exact same notion. When we truly find the work that “matters” – amazing things happen.  We feel more fulfilled each day, which translates into happier and more productive version of ourselves.  Which floods into the workplace, making a better environment around us, and positively impacting individuals throughout our day.  If this attitude could become infectious, the world would inherently become a better place.

Check out the closing snippet, which I find so powerful: “What is the work you can’t not do”. Read that again.  “What is the work you can’t NOT do?”.  In other words, what is the mission you have in your life that would devastate you if you were unable to do it?  That is exactly what we should be doing with the time we’re given.
